Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Gary Roughead and Gen. James T. Conway, commandant of the Marine Corps, helped kick off the Navy League's 54th Sea-Air-Space (SAS) Exposition May 3 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Md.
Along with Navy League National President Daniel B. Branch Jr., SAS Chairman Lee Gurke and Acting Maritime Administrator David Matsuda, Conway and Roughead cut the ribbon to open the event, which runs through May 5.
During the ceremony, Branch spoke about the Navy League's commitment to advocating for the sea services.
“We are a seafarer nation. Our economy depends on it,” he said.
With the theme “Responding Globally — Engaged at Sea & Ashore,” SAS 2010 will feature more than 150 leading defense companies exhibiting weapons and sea power technologies for the 21st century, a series of five professional development seminars with military leaders and defense corporate partners and a series of floor speaker presentations.
