What is the Navy League of the United States?

The Navy League of the United States was founded in 1902 with the encouragement of President Theodore Roosevelt. The Navy League of the United States provides a powerful and consistent message to Congress and the American People about the need to maintain strong sea services. The Navy League has grown to become the foremost citizens' organization to serve, support, and stand with all the U.S. sea services -- the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine.  Since the Navy League’s founding, it has grown to become a worldwide organization with:
  • Nearly 50,000 members
  • More than 250 councils
  • Over 240 corporate and community affiliate members
Mission Statement:
A civilian organization dedicated to informing the American people and their government that the United States of America is a maritime nation and that its’ national defense and economic well being are dependent upon strong sea services – United States Navy, United States Marine Corps, United States Coast Guard and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine. Goals:
  1. Educate national leaders and the nation.
  2. Support the men and women of the sea services.
  3. Provide assistance to sea service families.
  4. Support youth programs.


What is the Sea-Air-Space Exposition?

The Navy League’s Sea-Air-Space Exposition was founded in 1965 as a means to bring the U.S. defense industrial base, private-sector U.S. companies and key military decision makers together for an annual innovative, educational, professional and maritime based event located in the heart of Washington, DC.  Sea-Air-Space is now the largest maritime exposition in the U.S. and continues as an invaluable extension of the Navy League’s mission of maritime policy education and sea service support.

Sea-Air-Space features:

  • More than 150 dynamic, innovative and sophisticated defense and maritime industry exhibits displaying the latest in technology and equipment.
  • Abundant opportunities to learn about, test and see the most advanced military equipment
  • Professional development sessions featuring:
    • High level discussions on important strategic policy issues.
    • Panelists from the U.S. Departments of Defense, Homeland Security and State; the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard; and the Maritime Administration.
    • The most up-to-the-minute developments in policy, programs and needs for the maritime services.
  • Daily exhibit hall floor speaker sessions featuring:
    • Tactical, real-life application perspectives.
    • Speakers represent each of the sea services from the program level.
    • Discussions of technology, programs and products currently in use.
    • Discussions of technology applications and needs for the future.
  • Maritime Energy Pavilion featuring:
    • Displays of the most advanced technology leading the way in addressing the national energy concerns.
    • Daily speakers from the energy industry
    • Discussions of current and future energy initiatives of the sea services.
The Sea-Air-Space Exposition will continue to support the mission of the Navy League and lead the way as “THE” Exposition to attend each year to display the most current information and technology relevant to maritime policy.


Who attends the Sea-Air-Space Exposition?

The Sea-Air-Space Exposition is free and open to the following qualified attendees:

  • Active duty, reserve and retired U.S. Military
  • U.S. federal, state and local government employees
  • Members of Congress and Congressional Staff
  • Representatives of foreign embassies, government and military
  • Representatives of non-exhibiting defense industry companies
  • Representatives of exhibiting companies
  • Navy League members
  • Invited guests of the Navy League
The Sea-Air-Space Exposition attracts approximately 12,000 attendees and is not open to the public.  Children over the age of 15 may attend the exposition provided they are accompanied by an adult at all times.  No one under the age of 18 is permitted in the exhibit halls during installation or dismantle hours.
